BRIGADIER GENERAL (RTD) FARHATH SHAHEER

Brigadier General (Rtd) Farhath Shaheer joined the Maldives National Defense Force in 1986.
He was the Vice Chief of Defense Force when he retired from service in 2012.
He did his commissioning training at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, United Kingdom. His military education includes training at US Infantry School, Fort Bening, USA where he completed his Infantry Officer Advance Training and completed his Command and General Staff Course at SESKOAD, Indonesia. In addition, he has completed many short and long-term training and education programs and attended many seminars at many security and military institutions across the globe. These countries include India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Thailand, Philippines, China Mongolia, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. During his tenure at MNDF his command appointments include Commanding Officer, Quick Reaction Force 3; Commanding Officer, Regional Headquarters Central Area; Commanding Officer, Regional Headquarters (Ibrahim Nasir International Airport )Hulhule, Commanding Officer, Training Unit; Commandant, Defense Institute for Training and Education; and Executive Officer at MNDF Headquarters to name a few. He has been decorated with many medals and ribbons for his services for the Nation. These include 3rd November Medal, Dedicated Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Long Service Medal, Centenary Medal, MNDF Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, and the Presidential Medal. After his retirement from MNDF, he served briefly as the Chair of the National Drug Council and subsequently as the CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 2018.
